Elaina Harris

My name is Elaina and I am part of the Sherwood High School class of 2024.

My journey started out a little differently than you might expect. I was helping my dad coach my brother’s baseball team. Right away, my dad saw potential. I was throwing the ball harder than the boys and running faster than most of them too.

My Dad kept insisting I should try out for softball. Honestly, at the time, I was enjoying my dance classes and playing club volleyball. I really wasn’t interested in softball, but he just kept bugging me about it. I decided I would try out so that I could prove to him that I didn’t like it. Well.... my plan failed (he was right), and I fell in love with the game!

The 2023-2024 season will be my fifth year playing Tournament Softball (I played one season of Rec.) and I can’t imagine my life without it.

One of my favorite parts of playing a sport (besides the physical act of playing) has been the relationships that I’ve made. Many of my softball teammates (and their families) have become like family to me. I love having that level of trust with people both on and off the field. The relationships I have built and lessons I’ve learned over the years, have made me a better person. I know my journey isn’t over yet, and I’m looking forward to playing softball throughout my college years.
